Essay 1-02b:Conbined Draft Essays about University life

In university, they have many friends and they spend times in university together. For example, they eating lunch, study at library, and go to classes together.

There are a variety of useful facilities at KGU. Diligent students here come to building No.14 and go to the 4th floor. Then they use the computers.
They use the computers to learn something, finish their reports, or just kill time for free! There is a receptionist's office by the elevators and the students who want to borrow something come there. They have the website and this is the link of it. http://www.ecc.kumagaku.ac.jp/ Students who major in English and are sophomores often borrow headsets to listen to and speak English because they have a lot of hard assignments. It usually runs from 9 a.m. to 9:50 p.m., opening time on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. on Saturdays. Unfortunately, it is closed on Sunday. There are a lot of Windows computers and some Mac computers. Of course students in KGU can print out some documents and borrow laptop computers.

Recently, an east Asian cafe started on 2nd floor on building No.14. There are a lot of drinks and sweets, and the students can study calmly there! Though many of the students may haven’t been there yet, they should go there once. There are a lot of menu. For example, coffee, tea, juice, cake and so on. There supply to them fair trade products. There runs from 10 a.m. to 14:30 p.m. They can study a lot at building No. 14.

This year, English Department students have a lot of homework. They always do English Central at home. Their family may think strange because they always speaks to computer. That is speaking class' homework, but they also have listening, writing and reading class' homework, too. They must blogging, typing, listening, listening and write dictation every week. Compare with last year, they have more homework, but it is good for growing English skill. Actually, some students think their own English is getting better than last year. But there are some students who still not good at speaking. When they want to tell something in English though, they need little time for translate to English in their brain. They'll study more to improve this in university. They may want to try more study with their friends and teachers.

They have to take four English classes. On Monday, they have reading and speaking class. Teacher of reading class is Mr. K. They studies grammar, and world news. Last class, they studied about conjunction. For example, how to use “and”. They often use this word when they writing any sentence, so this class is very important for them. The homework of this class is to read English newspaper, and to find titles which are match with five themes. It is very difficult, because there are a lot of titles. Also, there has a lot of word which is they do not know. They uses them dictionary, and compare with them to match with theme.

The other class is speaking class. Teacher of speaking is Mr. T. Last class, they asked their classmates many things. For example, “Did you go to restaurant recently?” “Do you have your cellphone?” “Have you watched any cinema recently?”. Then, they could find about other students. Next, this class, they are going to examine about part-time job. They asked one hundred students in KGU, and they have to presentation about this result. They have to think about a lot of question for students. It is very difficult to ask questions for one hundred students, but they will do their best.

On Tuesday, they have a listening class. Teacher of listening is Mr. W. They study British English in this class. They think that British English is more difficult than American English. These accents are very different, so it is hard for them to listening to them.

On Wednesday, they have Writing class. Teacher of writing is Mr. B. This class’s homework is Book review, Blog, and Typing. They do them every week. BR 1-07: The Baby Day (Alexander, 1988)

  "But I'm glad you came!"

The school has the baby day, which a students' younger sister comes to school and comes in contact with the students. However, a smart student who came from the best school , Clare, didn't think much of her current school life and her attitude was at first. However, as she and their students played with a lovely baby girl,  , they found it heartwarming and at last, they enjoyed! This is the scene that the student thanked his mother and told her after school was over.

I've heard the line, "But I'm glad you came." when I listened to foreign songs and the song's title is "I'm glad you came". Now I learned when the sentence should be used.

Priming questions on hopes and fears

I'll leave for Minnesota in July. It isn't my first time abroad. I went to eastern Canada to study English when I was a high school student.
First, I hope to accomplish acquiring the ability of speaking daily English fluently in Minnesota. However, I'm not good at listening to what you speak English so I'm afraid of your feeling tired of speaking again and again.

Second, I hope to find some American culture I don't know. If I watch TV or talk to someone, I can learn some pieces of information, but I think there is more of it when I'm exposed to the culture directly. Though I may sometimes feel confused and it might be difficult to accept it, I need to know it and compare with Japanese one at first.
Third, I hope to make American friends  and Japanese friends through the wonderful experience. Actually, there were many students I hadn't talk to in this class, I'd like to get along with them in this opportunity. However, I'm afraid of being with Japanese friends too often because it's easier to speak Japanese.
Next, I'm forward to travelling because I've been to a foreign contry by myself and so I can build on my experience, but where I've been to is safer, I have to pay attention more.
Finally,  I'd like to have fun to stay in Minnesota with my classmates and make lots of memories but I have a fear to only have fun and not to study.

About my keitai

Though most of the students do that, I use my cell phone too many times. When I get up, I check it and if someone gives me messages, I continue to reply him or her while preparing for school. Then, I usually come to school by bike, so I often check it when traffic lights turn red and of course I check it or listen to music by my cell phone when I come to school by bus. When I arrive at school, I check it or send a message to my friends to get together with them. Even if in the classes, I often wait for a chance to use it.

Using the computer

I think I 'm not good at using the computer. I don't have any available computers at home and so I always use the computer at study room or the library of school. I haven't been good at typing since high school. The reason is that I had the typing exams at the end of the every semester in my high school and if the students who couldn't type 300 words in 10 minutes in Japanese, they had to take the exams again and most of them got bad ranks.

My favorite movies

Actually, I don't watch a variety of movies so often, but my favorite movies are 'Twilight' and 'The Devil Wears Prada'. 'Twilight’ is an American romantic fantasy movie and it originally became popular as some series of novel. The main character is a teenage girl, Bella and a vampire, Edward. She had many friends in school but he didn't approach her. She tried to find that why he was reluctant to become a friend of her and found what he really is like.

Foreign countries

I'd like to travel many foreign countries such as the U.S., the U.K., France, Spain but I'm also interested in Turkey, Vietnam, or a lot of developing countries because I joined a big NGO group called "Free the Children" when I was a high school student. In the volunteer works, I learned that there are lots of child labors and child soldiers all over the world and many children in developing countries are suffered from harmful diseases and bad drugs.

My other classes

I almost join classes which I take and don't skip them. However, it's really hard to finish all of my assignments, especially, Speaking, Writing, and kaigaikennshu! I also find it hard to take international society and Japan because the teacher is strict and it is only the 1st period that I take this year. Though the other students also think so, 2nd-year students who major in English have to study, study and study! Some of them don't want to do their tasks, but I'd like to improve my English skills in this opportunity.

University life

I'm going to write about facilities at KGU. Though I didn't go to study room next to e-Campus Center last year, now computers in the study room are my good friends because I don't have a PC. In my daily life, I come to school in the morning and take some classes. If I have free time between them, I go to the study room to finish my assignments. After that, I go to the driving school and take some of the lessons. Even if the driving school is over at 8:30 p.m., I come back to KGU to go to the study room. However, I have 40 minutes left to use computers because there are closed at 9:50 p.m.! When the closing hour is approaching, an e-Campus Center staff always comes to me and says "We are almost closing here, so could you shut down the PC?" I'd like to say that I know, but I shut down.

What I do at the study room is to check at the Gmail box to find new tasks from teachers at first. When I saw a hard task, I found it a little boring but I do.When I almost finished it, I got really satisfied and at last I enjoyed doing it!  This is the same as any other tasks. Writing 3 is one of the hardest subjects that we need to use the computer. Speaking 3 is troublesome as well, for we have to speak English to the PC by myself. I think that English Central is the nice way to listen to and speak English but it's really inconvenient for students who doesn't have a PC at home and can't use English Central. Now, I'm going to finish it soon, but it was really hard to do it bit by bit everyday partly for living far from KGU and coming there by bike.

When I use the PC at the study room at night, there are almost no students around me! However, I enjoy doing the tasks.

University Life

A year and a month have passed since I entered KGU. Compared to last year, I'm now really busy because of studying and the driving school. In addition, my friends who I usually take classes are different from those who I took classes last year. Though I joined my club almost every week last year, I don't join it every week now.

BR 1-06: Grandad and Me(Greenhills,2003)

"When my grandad was my age things were very different."

This book isn't a story but a boy's observation to find out what his grandad did when he was little while comparing with the boy's life. He focuses on their school at first. His grandad had school uniforms while he doesn't. There're more differences between them, for example, the building construction and the trend. However, what the book can say is that no matter how different they may be, they are a good relationship.

Get the learner's license!

Just a month had passed since I entered the driving school on May 2nd. I finished taking both studying lessons and technical lessons so I took the pre-tests. I was really nervous because made some obvious mistakes when I was driving and I hadn't passed the writing practice exams. As a result, I passed them! I got the learner's license several days later and I was so excited!
I'd like to go to the driving school more often to get a driving license earlier. The reason is that I need to work harder but I can't do it while going to driving school and I want to study English more.

BR 1-05:In the Garden (Hunt, Brychta,1987)

"There must be giant slugs round here."

One day, a boy called Kipper finds the magic key. When he and his friends are playing in the garden, the magic begins and they get smaller and smaller. They enjoyed the small life so much. For example, the regular-sized strawberries are bigger for them so they ate a lot! After they become their former sizes, Kipper's father wonders why the strawberries are took a bit and says the sentences.
I really enjoyed reading this book because Kipper's father doesn't know who ate the strawberries!

Work too hard... and then

I had a part-time job on May 3rd to May 5th. Especially, I really worked hard on the final day. I started working at 11 a.m. and finished it at 11   p.m. and took a recess only for 40 minutes. Many guests came, came, and came. That's why I was exhausted.
However, I'll have been working there for a year next month and I have  many things to be able to do now, so I enjoy working! In addition, I ate steak which the owner prepared after the lunch time and he took me to Trippa, an Italian   restaurant and wine bar on Namiki-zaka Street after working! Both of the dishes were so rich and yummy!
No working hard makes no profits. That's why I work hard and I become fond of the hard tasks.
I recommend the steak restaurant I work at, Yodogawa and the Italian restaurant, Trippa.

Sushi-ro

We had a club activity for only second-year students last night. We gathered together at Sushi-ro in Motoyama and ate Sushi. I didn't eat sushi a lot but I had a good time! After that, my friends went bowling, went to the hot spring, went for a drink and then stayed at home together but I didn't join them. However, I'd like to join the next time if I have enough time and money.

How I study English

I'd like to tell you about how I study English. Basically, I do what I'm given at the classes at school and I go to the English conversation school once a week. I also like reading out something written in English aloud so I often do it at home. In addition, I like listening to and singing foreign music so I practice singing. I'm not good at reading thick books written in English so I want to try it this year.
[84 words]

Food/eating habits

I have had an unchangeable eating habit since I was a child. If there are some kinds of dishes on the table, I always eat them in order. Though I can eat them alternately when I eat them consciously, this doesn't sit well with me and it's not a eating style of me. Next, I sometimes eat from dislikes while I save the best for last. I think my original eating habits are really childlike, aren't they?

Golden week plan

I have a part-time job from May 3rd to May 5th so I've already had a day off. I went to Kitakyushu to go to Space World with a friend on April 29th. It's not a plan because it's May 1st today, but I'd like to tell you about it. At first, I wasn't good at riding a roller coaster or things like that, however, I became fond of them as he took me together.
[81 words]

My hobbies

I like to listen to foreign songs and singing them at karaoke very much. Though I haven't been to any concerts which foreign musicians sing,  I'd like to been them someday if I have an opportunity. I also like going out with my friends. I found a lot of nice restaurants and cafe, so I want to go there with my friends. In contrast, if you know any good restaurants or cafes that I don't know, I want you to take me there.
[87 words]

Music I like

I like foreign music very much. I often listen to Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Maroon 5, Owl City's songs and sing them at karaoke. Singing foreign songs is very good to practice English pronunciation. However, it is a little bit difficult to understand the meaning for me, so I check the meaning of them on the computer

First classes and new school life

I worked 2 part-time jobs and hung out with some friends during spring vacation, so it's a little bit boring for me to wake up early and come to school. However, in other way, I felt like trying to study harder and take lessons earnestly, for I reflected on my attitude of last year.

BR 1-04: From Curry to Rice(Maile, 2003 )

"What food do you like best?"

This is the book for the introduction of a variety of foods. It's written in simple English, but there were some kinds of food that I didn't know the name in English, for example, a fig and a jackfruit. In addition, I didn't know that a quiche comes from France so its spell is derived from French.
Reading this book made me so hungry because I read it before lunch and there were lots of food pictures on it like doughnuts, hamburgers and nachos.
